Our distinguished guests will include Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, law enforcement officers, community leaders, experts in education, representatives from the juvenile justice system, and the children themselves. This is the second year for the Bigs in Blue Summit, a program that focuses on pairing law enforcement personnel as one-to-one mentors to children in the communities they serve. Since launching with the Tampa Police Department in 2017, more than 90 officers, deputies and support staff from law enforcement agencies throughout our 7-county service area have signed up to serve as volunteer mentors. Now, a year later, results are showing that the program is not only changing the lives of the children involved in the program, but it’s also making a positive impact on the officers —and their communities.
